The Heart is created with heavy body acrylics and cured for a minimum of 15 days. Then I cut and stitched it back together with thread dipped in gold paint. On the cut edges I emulated the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi (“to join with gold”, is a reminder to stay optimistic when things fall apart and to celebrate the flaws and missteps of life) by painting them in gold. The heart, once cured is adhered to a painted wood panel and sealed with archival varnish.
Artist statement: "After experiencing repeated losses of loved ones, I didn't know how to heal my broken heart. This is one vision of how to mend, patch, restore my broken heart."
